Cultural Competencies in Business Communication

Online Professional Training Session

August 5 | 7:00–8:00 AM EST | 60 Minutes | Live Online

In today’s global and diverse workplace, effective communication requires more than speaking clearly or using professional vocabulary. Culture influences how people express ideas, respond to authority, give feedback, manage disagreement, interpret silence, build trust, make decisions, and collaborate with others.

Cultural Competencies in Business Communication is a practical 60-minute online training session designed to help professionals communicate more effectively across cultural differences. Participants will explore how personal assumptions, communication habits, and cultural expectations can shape workplace interactions with colleagues, clients, partners, employees, and international stakeholders.

The session will introduce key differences in direct and indirect communication, high-context and low-context communication, formality, hierarchy, teamwork, feedback, and nonverbal behavior. Participants will also examine common challenges in multicultural and virtual workplaces. For example, silence may communicate reflection and respect in one context, while it may be interpreted as uncertainty or disengagement in another.

Through practical examples, reflection questions, and a short case study, participants will learn how to recognize potential misunderstandings, ask better questions, adapt their communication style, and create more inclusive professional relationships.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the meaning of cultural competence
  • Recognize how culture influences workplace communication
  • Identify direct and indirect communication styles
  • Adapt verbal, written, nonverbal, and virtual communication
  • Give and receive feedback more effectively
  • Reduce assumptions and communication barriers
  • Build trust across cultures

This session is ideal for professionals, managers, entrepreneurs, educators, HR teams, international project teams, government and nonprofit employees, and anyone working in a multicultural environment.
